Frequently Asked Questions
1. What’s included in a guided fly fishing trip?
Our guided fly fishing trips include all necessary fishing gear, including rods, reels, lines, flies, and terminal tackle. Your guide will provide one of one coaching instruction, local knowledge, and insight into fishing techniques for the area. We also provide lunch (if applicable), and beverages.
2. Do I need to bring my own gear?
You are welcome to bring your own gear if you prefer, but we can provide everything you need for the trip. Our guides will ensure the gear is properly set up for the fishing conditions, and we carry top-quality equipment for all levels of experience.
3. What skill level is required for a guided trip?
Our trips are designed for all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned anglers. If you’re new to fly fishing, your guide will teach you the basics and help you build confidence on the water. If you’re an experienced angler, your guide can offer advanced techniques and help you fine-tune your skills.
4. How long is a typical guided trip?
Guided trips typically range from half-day (4 hours) to full-day (8 hours) trips. Half-day trips are perfect for a shorter experience, while full-day trips give you more time on the water and more opportunities for success.
5. What should I wear for the trip?
Colorado weather is unpredictable. We recommend asking your guide for recommendations. In most cases, wearing comfortable, moisture-wicking clothing that you don’t mind getting wet is optimal, as well as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Depending on the season and location, you may need to bring a rain jacket, a warm layer, or waders.
6. Are meals provided?
For full-day trips, we provide lunch, which includes several options. Your guide will go over our menu to confirm if you have any specific dietary needs or preferences. Half-day trips generally do not include meals, but can be added for an additional charge.
7. What fish species can I expect to catch?
Our Colorado waters are abundant with wild Rainbow, Brown, Cutthroat and Cutbow Trout. Some sections of river have higher populations of a certain species than others. If you're hoping to target a specific species, please communicate to your guide and they will know the best option for the day.
8. Do I need a fishing license?
On all trips, a fishing license is required for anyone 16 years or older to fish legally. We will help you obtain the necessary license before your trip. The cost of your fishing license is NOT included in your trip.
9. What if the weather is bad?
Safety is our top priority. If weather conditions are dangerous, we may postpone or reschedule the trip. However, many days on the water are still productive despite challenging weather. Your guide will adjust the plan accordingly to ensure the best fishing experience possible for that day.
10. Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own food and beverages. Alcohol is permitted in moderation, but please check with your guide beforehand. (No glass beverages please!)
